Community Meal Booking System

Designed and developed a booking system allowing parents and carers to book hot meals from local food producers from a custom built web based portal.  

The aim was to provide an easy to use facility to take meal orders, manage stock and ingredient control as well as financial management and invoicing through a booking system built for future expansion into other business sectors. The client operates a social enterprise in England providing hot meals to over twenty-five schools, nurseries and other establishments.

A new booking system was commisioned to fulfil existing and new requirements and provide a basis for future growth. In addition, other opportunities to licence the online booking system to organisations that would like to be able to take meal orders via the web were included as part of the project scope.

Rokk Media undertook a consultancy phase to fully understand the functionality required and the resulting system specification enabled the client to have a future proofed asset that meets current needs and also planned future phases.  

The new booking system provides the following capabilities:-

  • three user groups: managers and administrators, Schools and Educational Institutions, Parents and Carers
  • administration of menus, orders, management reports information
  • stock control and ingredient management
  • financial management and invoicing
  • capability to allow parents and carers to place orders from mobile devices
  • future expansion for orders from care homes, lunch clubs, etc
